TOBI Another giant step into Hollywood
Gone are the days when Nigerians fantasized about the possibility of having the Nigerian movie industry work its way into its American counterpart prominently known as Hollywood.
Well, this dream has since morphed into reality and today, we now have Nigeria actors being cast in movies shot as far as New York, Australia and the rest of Europe.
Those familiar with Nigerian movies would instantly recall movies like Ije, Mirror Boy, Unwanted Guest and many others and how they helped bring down the walls of limitation.
Despite the glaring feats Nigeria has accomplished in this regard, the Nigerian movie industry has taken yet another huge step of progress via the shooting of TOBI; a Nigerian movie shot in the United States of America.
This is not just one of those movies where the producer or director sneaks a camera into the streets and shabbily shoots a single scene and merges this into a Nigerian picture. Rather, with an American lead cast (Mark Williams) and a cross section of other foreign and Nigerian actors, Nigeria’s U.S-based producer, Emmanuel Ijeh delivers a movie that takes a giant leap into the halls of Hollywood yet retaining its Nigerian essence.
TOBI revolves around the story of a 21-year-old adult who gets caught in the familiar web of dark influences that drive him towards the cliff of self destruction. The movie also offers a peek into how deep the bond of brotherhood goes and the sacrifices that come with it.
The movie has been scheduled to premiere in Nigerian cinemas on April 13, 2012 and will feature a red carpet premiere in Lagos.
The movie is proudly supported by Silverbird Cinemas, Wazobia FM, Nigeria Films, STV, Blue Pictures, Emani Studios, AIT, City Mall, DSTV, ROK Productionz, Sweet Sensation, Galaxy TV, Simply Samad MEDIA, Nollywood America, Swish Interactive and a growing list of partners and sponsors.
